Cricket Creek Recreational Area & Campground
As mentioned in last months update the Dog Days Of Summer are here. The near record temperatures and very high heat index keep us mostly in the air conditioned interior of our houses. We do get out on the occasional road trip to tour some of the more built up attractions that are available to us and to those who visit us in the summer.
Table Rock Lake is one of those attractions. The dam that formed the lake was built and is maintained by the Army Corps Of Engineers. They are also responsible for the surrounding lake frontage, and have done a very good job of providing many recreational areas for public use. Cricket Creek is one of those areas and we took a drive over to visit it in Mid-July. When we headed out of town it was sunny but we quickly ran into clouds then a thunderstorm. It was overcast most of the day with brief periods of sunshine.
Located west of Omaha, Arkansas on Highway 14 Cricket Creek Recreation Area and Campground is situated on the Long Creek arm of Table Rock Lake. It has 36 class A designated campsites with water and electricity, some off on their own and some grouped together. Showers, flush toilets, a trailer dumping station, picnic areas and fresh drinking water round out the basic amenities provided. Anyone who wants a really nice place to park their RV for a weekend or a week would be hard pressed to find a better location.
This lakefront recreational area boasts a public boat launch as well as a courtesy dock, volleyball court, playground, swim beach and a full service marina. You can rent a pontoon boat for the afternoon or week. Fishing is outstanding on our Arkansas lakes and you can also scuba dive on this lake.
After we finished our tour of that area we decided to drive down to Persimmon Point. This is an area, undeveloped, on the banks of the lake which the public is allowed to use. It was quite rugged but the road in and out is maintained and the drive was pleasant. We saw quite a few boats and several pontoon boats. Make plans to visit Table Rock Lake with your family this summer and enjoy some of what Arkansas has to offer. You can find additional information about Cricket Creek here.
