Hemmed In Hollow
Hemmed In Hollow waterfall is located in the Ponca wilderness area of the Buffalo National River. According to the Park Service the falls are 209 ft. tall. It is also the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalachians. For most of the year the falls run quiet but in the spring, or heavy rains it can become quite spectacular. These images are from a hike that was done in the spring of 2006.
Hemmed In Hollow is actually a small valley closed in on three sides by bluffs 200 ft or more in height. You can access it by three different hiking trails. The Compton Trailhead, the Center Point Trailhead are the most popular. For those floating the river, the falls are an easy half-mile hike from the river trailhead and a three mile hike from Kyle's Landing. You can view a trail map here.
